SOPA
As you are more than likely aware the US house of representatives have been looking at passing the Stop Online Priacy Act (SOPA).
Although Firecore IT in no way supports piracy of copyrighted materials the news of the file sharing site MegaUpload being shut down prompted us to to stand up and look at the situation. MegaUpload; a site which allows users to upload files for other individuals to download, was shut down because it contained links to download copyrighted materials. What was failed to be mentioned about MegaUpload is quite simple:
1) All the downloadable content is the responsibility of the user not of MegaUpload
2) MegaUpload is used for legitimate reasons such as the transfer of work, photos and open-source software
Because of this we urge any individuals or corporations who benefit from technologies such as webDAV, FTP, P2P file sharing etc. to take a stand against the Stop Online Piracy Act.
Our Managing Director gave this statement: "If the stop online piracy act and protect ip act are passed then firecore's servers will be taken offline for an unspecified period of time and we urge others to do the same."
